"Trump opposed imperialism" is very dumb but you can make a lot saying it
There's an easy way for leftists to take money from right-wing projects while avoiding the obvious conflict of interest.
Christian Parenti, writing for Compact, thinks that Donald Trump has been indicted “because he has dared to oppose the imperial foreign policy favored by elites.” Objectively this is a pretty ridiculous argument. Under Trump and Obama, average annual airstrikes (the US’s primary weapon of war) were nearly identical. During his only term in office Trump ordered the most dangerous and reckless military action the US had engaged in since Iraq: the illegal assassination of Iranian commander Qasem Soleimani. Though it is difficult to guess how Trump would run the war in Ukraine, his most likely move would be to pivot towards further escalation against China — by the end of his presidency, Trump’s relationship with Xi had grown so hostile that US generals had to secretly assure their Chinese counterparts that he was not going to declare war. And just last week, Asawin Suebsaeng and Adam Rawnsley reported that Trump is already asking his advisors for “battle plans” to “attack Mexico.”
