None of these candidates are socialists

Why should socialists vote for people who oppose our politics?

If you are a socialist who wants to see our economy transformed into a socialist economy, you should support politicians who share that goal. They should also, of course, declare their opposition to the most violent and oppressive force in the world: capitalism. These are points that everyone understands when we are talking about other vectors of oppression like racism and homophobia, so I trust that I don’t need to belabor the point too much here.

Here, I bring it up simply to remind everyone that no socialist has announced that they will run against Joe Biden for the Democratic nomination. Marianne Williamson is running but has repeatedly said that she is not a socialist and rolls her eyes at opposition to capitalism. RFK Jr. in his own words: “There is no stronger advocate for free market capitalism than myself!” Bernie Sanders, meanwhile, has announced that he will not run for president in 2024, which means that as of now there are no socialist contenders.
